Hello,

Which do you find more common?

I spent 3 hours on the translation.
1. How long
2. How much time did you spend on the translation?

Tnank you.

hummm, think
"how much time did you spend on the translation?"

"how long did it take for you to translate...?"

I mean to keep "did you spend on the translation?"

I agree with "zatsu"... if you use "how long", it sounds better with "how long did it take" instead. But "how much time did you spend" sounds perfectly fine to me, so I would guess that it's more common.

So, "How long did you spend on..." is plain wrong?

I wouldn't say that it's plain wrong, but it's sounds a little weird.
