What does "mean" here?

He's my old man and I love him to bits but I can spend too much time with him.

For the sentence above, I don't quite understand the logical relation induced by the word "but". Anyone to explain this to me? Thanks!

Oh sorry. The headline should be 'what does 'but' mean here"?

Seems to me it should be "I can't" instead of "I can". But let's ask the native speakers.

Lo quiero mucho pero es posible pasar demasiado tiempo con él.

It is possible, inspite of my love for him, to spend TOO much time with him.

Lo de "es posible" me resulta mucho más claro que "I can".

Thanks Guest, makes sense to me now.

It's rather peculiar. What it means is

I love him but I sometimes spend TOO much time with him(which I don't
want to do)

On the one hand, you love him and want to spend some time with him but
on the other hand you DON'T want to spend SO much time with him(you
regret it but you can't do otherwise)

Hope it helps

Can a mod fix the thread title please? It always bugs me when I see it.
