None vs not any

Hello,
Please have a look.

1. None of us can explain it.
2. Not any of us can explain it.

Is #2 equally correct and common?
Any connotations?

Thank you.

You would virtually never hear number 2. It's not ungrammatical, but most people are accustomed to saying "none" in that situation.

Thank you, Uriel.

Number 2 sounds really formal while the second one sounds more familiar

If you wanna be admired have Number 2 in mind!

Thank you too, guest.

I don't see how saying number 2 would get you admired. I think it would be more likely to make you seem weird.

"None" is not a formal word, any more than "some" or "any". They are all common, neutral terms. And trust me, no one ever says #2.

It's amazing how much disinformation there is in these threads. Number 2 is just wrong.
