Summer job in another language

Hi, I know its still early to be thinking of the summer, but I guess i'm thinking ahead.

I was thinking this summer of working in another country. In my university, there are lots of ads for volunteer work in central/south america. I wouldn't mind doing that but i dont know spanish and it seems that nicaragua has become like summer camp for socially-conscious 20 year olds.

Since Im taking german, i was thinking of trying to get a job in germany or switzerland. Maybe in tourism or hotel since i speak english and french. Does anyone have any advice or experience they could share?
Thanks

And, along with the course, does anyone have any advice on how to improve. I try to read german newspapers and can understand the gist, but when I watch movies in german, i can't really understand whats going on. (except when in "Run Lola Run", they all start saying : Der tasche!" ;)
