It seems that we have had quite a few accent/dialect samples lately. I thought I would post a copy of my own for you to analyze or evaluate. What are your impressions? Thanks for listening.

I just know you're from the north, preferably leaning towards Minnesota.

Am I right or totally wrong?

Would anyone else care to comment? Thanks again.

NCVS with a vengeance; I hear monophthongization, too, of certain vowels.

Somewhere near the Great Lakes, possibly Wisconsin or Northern Michigan.

I am the original poster. I grew up mostly in Chicago and southeastern Wisconsin, but I lived in the Minneapolis area for a few years, and I spent quite a bit of time in the Detroit suburbs. I now live out on the West Coast, but I don't think I have picked up much or any of the accent here. I can sometimes emulate a somewhat convincing Western accent, but the lot-cloth split usually gives me away.

Wil, I am guessing that you are from the Philippines.

I guess my comment was partially correct.

Your guess is almost correct. Im Asian, but I'm not from the Philippines. I'm actually from Thailand. But since most people I know are from the Philippines, I guess that's where I got the accent from.

So what gives it away that Im Asian?

Original poster,

You definitely have a NCSV-influenced accent. Also your /u:/ sounds more rounded than mine.
Can you record and upload one of your Western accent??
