What is the difference in meaning between "I have been to see that film" and "I have seen that film"?

The first example implies that you went somewhere to view the film, probably a movie theater, where your second example does not.

They both mean the same thing however I think you will find most native speakers using the second formulation probably with the contraction "I've" instead of "I have".
