Printable IPA/ASCII chart
This handy chart contains the pronunciation symbols used in modern English dictionaries (see here for an explanation with audio recordings), their corresponding symbols in the ASCII Phonetic Alphabet, and example words for each symbol. The chart fits nicely on one sheet of paper and looks much better than a simple printed Web page.
You can print out the chart in as many copies as you like. If you are a teacher, you can photocopy the sheet and hand it out to your students. In short, you can distribute the chart freely.
- Open the PDF file. You need a recent version of Adobe Reader, Foxit Reader, etc.
- Click Print in your PDF reader. The chart fits on both A4 and US Letter paper formats.
