Native speakers, How can I get an American accent?

Yes but in those days the Midlands went down as far as the Thames. So, in Middle English terms, London English was part of the Midlands. Beats me where the South was then...

Then there's the stereotypical American tourist - people selling trinkets in a third world country hear one sentence of s-l-o-w-l-y spoken English (of course the only kind those foreignors can understand :)), take one look at the cameras dangling around the neck ... and prices start flying.

If someone is an actor, then they often have to learn accents. In addition, those who are learning English try to learn the accent and pronunciation of the dialect they are studying/interested in.

Ah, Jamie On....childish as always.

As long as people get the idea of what you're trying to say, who cares what accent you have!

Don't try to become something you're not..........

I agree.

Why do people act like sounding American is a sin?
Bjork   Tuesday, November 25, 2003, 14:23 GMT
Maybe because it's too nasal sometimes

It is far better to speak excellent English with a bad accent than it is to speak bad English with an excellent accent of any kind.

English is very important because in english you can say things that are so stupid , you can say them only in english . Other languages just aren't stupid enough.
