That's so only because Quebec belongs to Canada, a rich anglophone country. Let Quebec get the independence and they will become as rich as Haiti.

Actually, that's not true.
Canada consists of provinces ruled by a federal government.
The provinces pretty much decide how to run everything inside their provincial borders.

If Quebec becomes independent, it will get richer because Canada will be forced to BUY the electricity from Quebec (since HydroQuebec the biggest producer of electricity in Canada and the world). Also, Canada will be forced to buy trains and planes from Bombardier.

On the contrary my friend. Companies like Bombardier already take profit of the Canadian market and this makes Quebec to have a healthy economy. If they become independent, the Canadian market will protect the domestic market and impose heavy taxes to foreign products like those made by companies in Quebec, like all countries do to promote their own companies. At any case if certain things are not made by Canadian companies, Canada will prefer to buy them to US rather than to the ungrateful and independent Quebec. So Quebec would lose a huge amount of money .

Shut up! Who are you to dictate us on what we gonna do? You're just a Anti-French Hispanic Fanatic.

We're sick and tired of being viewed as extnesion of the Yankees. If Quebec becomes independent, Anglophone Canada will continue to trade with Quebec.

If Quebec gets the independence they will end up fishing at the ice to survive.

And Hispanic America will end up eating guinea pigs.

Spanish countries like Argentina have a lot of fertile land. Quebec doesn't, it's too close to the North Pole.

You know what, you can kiss my ass!

Quebec is ungrateful?
Who the fuck do you think you are?

Did you forget the days when you Anglophones used to discriminate against the Quebecois, until you finally got your asses kicked out?

Did you forget Michele Lalonde's poem, you piece of shit?

You're just an ass-kisser for the Americans, you'd rather be their friends than your fellow countrymen's friend.

Who is that lady, the mother of Josh the moderator?

If Quebec ever did split off, wouldn't it automatically be part of NAFTA?
Guest   Tue May 13, 2008 6:23 pm GMT
Canada would boycott it. One can't separate and hope that your former country will be as friendly as always. Anyways this is pure speculation, Quebec will never be an independent country, since Quebecers know well that it would be an economic suicide .

Please, can we answer the question seriously?

I think that the American of the webpage is right:

the most useful languages other than English for world travellers are those that are:

used by at least a significant subset of people
throughout a large area
where English isn't widely used

So, Spanish (Latin America, Mexico, Spain, etc), Chinese (China, Taiwan, etc), and Arabic (Arabic World) have these 3 points.

French, German, or Hindi are less important because English is very studied in France, Germany and India. This is a logical idea. So, if English is widely studied in a country, their language is less important.

This is an important factor. If we look at regions, Europe is dominated by English first. However, English has no major official presence in S. America or Asia (besides India of course).
