Do American(US) schools teach Peninsular Spanish(European Spanish) or Mexican Spanish?

- Mexican Spanish.
Most don't know how to use 'vosotros', which is not used in Latin America

Why? Castilian Spanish is more sophisticated.

Whatttttttttttttttttt ?

You are not completely wrong. It's not Castilian Spanish but derives from Old Castilian Spanish whereas the Spanish dialects spoken in Cuba, Venezuela, and the rest of Hispanic countries derive from Old Andalusian Spanish .I mean, Old Castilian Spanish was the Spanish variety spoken in the North of Spain in the XVI century and Old Andalusian Spanish was spoken in the South. You can still see some similarities between Mexican Spanish and Castilian Spanish, for example both pronouce all the consonants whereas Cuban or Venezuelan Spanish drop many S's like they do in Andalusian Spanish. This is due to the fact that the Spanish conquistadores who arrived to Mexico where from Northern Spain whereas those men and women who explored and settled in South America where from Andalusia or Extremadura, but not necessarily. Also some of them may be from the North of Spain but acquired southern features in their speech because at those times the port of Seville monopolized the trading with America and prior to the departure the settlers who wanted to travel to America had to stay a considerable amount of time in Seville .

Spanish is the most studied foreign language in Lousiana, Skippy can tell you. Also I will tell you another difference: Spanish is recocgnized by the Constitution of New Mexico whereas French in Louisiana was simply banned.

French is the first language of the hispanics in New Mexico. French is recognized by the Louisiana Constitution whereas Spanish in New Mexico is simply dead.

Tell me the pararaphs of the Constitution of Louisiana and links to the information if you are as kind as liar.
Guest   Sun Jun 08, 2008 2:37 am GMT
You're as good as ignorant! French is a de facto official language of Louisiana along with English. If it's not recognized, would Lousiana allow CODOFIL with its program, the French language TV and Radio programs, and as a medium of instruction?

You said the Constitution of Louisiana recognizes the French language and yet you didn't give me any links. Don`t you know that French was banned by Louisiana as a means of instruction in public schools? Spanish on the other hand was allowed in public schools in New Mexico. There are Spanish TV and Radio stations everywhere in US, that means nothing.
