From wikipedia

"At the start of 2008 Sarkozy began to scale down his plans for the MU due to widespread opposition from other states in the EU and the Commission (see "Reactions" below).[13] At the end of February of that year France's minister for European affairs, Jean-Pierre Jouyet, stated that "there is no Mediterranean Union" but rather a "Union for the Mediterranean" which would only be "completing and enriching" to existing EU structures and policy in the region.[1] Following a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel it was agreed that the project would include all EU member states, not just those bordering the Mediterranean, and built upon the existing Barcelona process. Turkey also agreed to take part in the project following a guarantee from France that it was no longer intended as an alternative to EU membership. The MU was launched on the 13-14 July 2008.[3]"

Now every member of the EU is a part of it.

So is this an ampliation of the EU by a back door?

Kind of. It's a first step towards admitting Turkey and some North African nations into the EU without angering the population.

Turkey will never be a part of the EU. It's not a European country...
Guest   Sun Jul 13, 2008 10:46 pm GMT
I think it's stupid, they already have the EU.

This is a joke. Why not just make a World Union. God damn Euroburueaucrats! And what the hell does Finland have to do with the Mediterranean?

So it will be an extension of the EU by a different name? But what do the EU have to gain by such extreme expansion? Or is this a new kind of colonialism?

What do you mean by "Israeli Terrorism"? Terrorism by Israel or against Israel?

I assume any citizen of one of these new Mediterranean countries has the right to live and work in any other member country? Will they all be adopting the Euro?
Guest   Mon Jul 14, 2008 1:43 am GMT
No, they'll be adopting the Medo, (which is just the Euro in disguise, but shhhhhh , don't tell anyone)
