If you hate English and have to lern it, all you can do is to find an efective way to lern it. Basically, Antimoon.com is suposed to be for that purposs. We don't have to love the language. We just lern the language.
Hiro   Tue Dec 06, 2005 2:21 am GMT
LeArn to spell it correctly, at least. This will efFectively give you a sense of purposE so you can supPose all you want.

I agree that not nearly enough has been done about the trolls. Hell, at this point, the "languages" forum has been practically taken over by them, with little actually being done about them, which is why I don't post there much anymore, since it seems rather pointless to try to fight them at this point with a certain individual's apparent attitude towards them. There was a chance to implement that which is necessary to cleanse this forum of these sorts when it was taken down for modifications after the flooding attacks against it in the past, but that chance was squandered, making it so that the trolls can practically run rampant over it at will.

Having a negative attitude towards any subject, be it the English Language or anything else you feel you have to learn, makes the "task" even more difficult. Then the need to learn becomes a tiresome chore and will not be truly effective. My guess is that anybody who "hates English", but feels a compulsion to learn it, will never really master the Language.

At least it's a good idea to learn how to correctly spell basic everyday words, however detestable the Language in your opinion.

Better still, give English the big heave-ho and try some other Language with which you feel more in tune. That will be a relief to the poor people who would otherwise have the tawdry efforts of an unwillling "student" inflicted on them.

" actually hate english language "

Oh, I'm sorry.

I hear it's very difficult being French these days.

The French language IS in decline.

It what once the major language of the EU - now English is the major language of the EU. French now isn't even in second place in the EU because even German has overtaken it.

Each year, less and less British students are learning French. They see it as an old-fashione language, that isn't very cool and is a language that only old people speak. Spanish, though, is on the increase in Britain as it is seen as a much cooler language.

Chinese, naturally, is also increasingly popular in Britain, gradually pushing out French learning. China will soon overtake the United States to become the 21st Century's dominant power, so learning Chinese is important. However, learning French isn't seen as being important in Britain anymore as France is seen as a very weak country - politically, economically, and militarily - and is always stuck in the past and can't seem to escape from remembering past glories, unlike Tony Blair's Cool Britannia.

I, for one would be sorry to see French language go. It's such a beautiful, musical language, even if I don't understand it. My old bat high school French teacher once said to me, "Your accent is beautiful, Therese," then she added in her usual nasty tone, "Too bad you can't translate."

She was right, of course, but I love the sound of that language as I love the sound of all of the romance languages.

That's my gut feeling, too Adam.

Too many silly things have been said lately. English is used widely because grammatically is the simplest language and any person with a minimal of effort could learn it. The rest of languages, German, Spanish, French, Chinese are more, let's say, sophisticated.

No, it isn't.

The widespread use of English has NOTHING to do with its grammar or any other intrinsic linguistic feature.

The widespread use of English has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that the latest two great world powers, back-to-back, have been English-speaking.
Cro Magnon   Mon Dec 12, 2005 3:42 pm GMT
I think English IS one of the easier languages, but I agree with JJM. It's widely used because of the British Empire a few centuries ago, and US power since WW2. After all, Latin's complexity didn't stop it from being a major language back in the old days.
