The Status of Serbo-Croat/Serbo-Croatian
Commercials in British English can be shown in US, and many British commercials feature American English. This is so untrue of Hindu/Urdu and Croatian/Serbian.
Furthermore, Serbians cannot understand Croatian dialects which are alive and kicking, they don't understand a simple dialog of Gruntovcani or Malo Misto show.
Even Croats can't understand some dialogs in Gruntovčani or Malo misto. It's heavy, local dialect. What's your point?
It's not surprise,that Serbians can't understand Croatian dialects.Germans from Northern Germany can't understand some Swiss dialects,which are dialects of German too.
Dialects are not an argument; I personally can not understand some heavy northern Croatian dialects any more than I can understand Slovenian - no surprise somebody from Belgrade could not understand them either. I also can not understand certain forms of non-standard Italian, so what? Provided that the other person speaks STANDARD form of the language, even if lexically influenced a bit by their dialect, we can understand each other without problems. Dialects have always been a special case and have nothing to do with this story.
Serbian is ugly
What about Croatian then?? It's more or less the same language....
