Imagine if Spain would join to Portugal

This rivalry between Spain and Portugal is ridiculous. They are both latin and poor countries. :-)

LOL, Spain is richer than some Germanic countries in bankrupcy like Iceland and Denmark.

There's no rivalry, it's the Portguese that have an inferiority complex towards Spain not the other way around.

Go on youtube and you'll see that every video about Portugal has Spaniards bitching about how better they are than Portugal and how Portugal is Spain. Spaniards (mainly the Castillians) are just pissed that Portugal managed to escape Castile's wrath and annex Portugal like it did to the other companies. Their dream of a united Iberia got ruined by the Portuguese.

Also it doesn't help that Spain is governing a Portuguese territory illegally.

At least the Spaniards had enough cojones up to their mouths to try to unite whole Iberia.

The word Unite was a poor choice. Basically Spain is the result of Castile annexing most kingdoms from Iberia except for Portugal. Galiza, Catalonia, Basque Country all want to be free. Portugal doesn't want anything to do with this because they know it will result in Spain aka Castile pushing Castilian down their throat. That's what happened during the Iberian Union. Portuguese nobility were losing power and were treating with crap by Phillip IV. It's at that point that in 1640, Portugal broke off from the Union. Portugal's iberian Brothers have been sour about it ever since.

Sorry but its pretty much fact that Olivença is a Portuguese territory under Spanish administration. It's illegal and everybody knows about but they ignore it with fear that it will effect relations between Portugal and Spain and basically the EU. So stfu. Portugal has beating you guys many times and unlike Spain are united and will fight for their nation. I wouldn't even be surprised if some Basques, Catalonians, and Galicians sided with us. You guys are crazy if you think any more Portuguese land will get controlled by Spain. You know, a lot of Spaniards want Gilbratar back and Morroccans want Ceuta and all of your other North African possessions. It's same thing for Portugal and Olivença. Major difference is that our occupation is illegal because the Treaty of Vienna nulled everything from the Treat if Badajoz. The situation of Olivença is really ridiculous and I am chocked about how people are ignoring it and letting this illegal situation go on for like 150 or so years.

If Olivenza is Portuguese try to recover it if you have "cojones". But no, Portugal doesn't even claim Olivenza to the Spanish Government. Who cares of what happened 150 years ago. When Portugal became an in independent kingdom it was illegal too and nobody cares nowadays. You should worry about modernizing Portugal and not about a small piece of land. Remember that all the Portuguese rivers begin in Spain, and if you are bad boys you will end up without any water...

The issue always resurfaces every year and they do claim it. The situation over there is fucked up and kinda complicated because Portuguese claims it de jure and Spain de facto. This all happened during the Modern Era. Spain signed a treaty which stated that Olivença would be given back to Portugal but it didn't happen and threatened Portugal, which was impoverished from the Peninsular Wars (as was Spain) with war. If you look at today and the close ties that all European countries in the EU have, this situation is unlikely to be resolved. Especially since EU was created with the purpose of preventing European countries from engaging in wars with each other. Sad thing is that people spoke portuguese in Olivença all the way up to the 1950s until Franco decided to bring a bunch of Spaniards there in hopes of making people speak Spanish. So know it's mostly the old people that know Portuguese.

PS: not all big rivers in Portugal start in Spain. Sado is one.
Putronella   Wed Apr 29, 2009 12:40 am GMT
Sado is not a big river and Olivenza is Spanish. Period.

Mondego then.

Stop taking out of ass you don't know what you are talking out. Olivença is Portugal and Galiza, Catalonia, Basque Country isn't Spain.

At least give arguments instead of just spewing crap out of your ass.

Portugal and Spain need to unite and work towards uniting their two languages. Together they will easily stand up to the common opposition, that being Chinese Mandarin. Together they will stand, divided they fall. Old hatreds need to be put aside if they are to put up a strong fight against Chinese Mandarin on the World Stage.

There is no need to unite. The Portuguese should just learn to speak Spanish properly. In Brasil Spanish is gaining importance. The US is a known case.

Claro, no hace falta que Portugal se una a España, sólo basta con que las empresas españolas dominen la economía portuguesa y convertir así a Portugal en un satélite de España.
