No one's mentioned Miyazaki!

I love Japanese, French, and American Indie films. People seem to forget about the last category. It's more similar Hollywood.... except with intelligence. Although I understand it's hard to get a hold of a lot of the movies outside the US, but if you look hard enough you should find some. Another problem is the decentralization because there's nothing that's exactly labeled "Indie" so you kind of have to know. Even some HWood films border on Indie. Oh well.

American indie films? You mean stuff like "Welcome to the Dollhouse"? Or something on a bigger budget?

My experience is relatively limited, but after English (yes, this includes Americans films, which I would put at the top), I'd say German.

How about India?
