How do you say "I can do it in French?
ravinescu   Sun Sep 06, 2009 12:06 pm GMT
Je peux le faire.

Je peux faire?
Sorry my french level is low
ravinescu   Sun Sep 06, 2009 12:17 pm GMT
"Je peux faire" means "I can do", not "I can do it". This is why "le" must be used between "peux" and "faire".

Some context would be useful, however 'Je peux le faire' is correct, unless the 'it' is feminine, in which case it would be 'Je peux la faire'.

je peux/puis faire ça/cela

It would rather be "je peux le faire", although I suppose it can depend of the context. But I don't see a situation where you could have "je peux la faire", actually.
"Je peux faire ça" doesn't really mean the same thing (and you have "puis" and "cela" only in very litterary French), I understand it more as "I am allowed to do that", whereas I understand "I can do it" as "I am able, capable of doing it".

Je le peux faire would be the correct way to say it. However, it seems rather awkward to me for some reason.

"Je le peux faire" would be used in ancient French, but I don't think you will hear anyone say that.

"Je le peux faire" sonne vraiment médiéval !

"Je peux le faire" est en général la meilleure formulation, mais dans certains contextes "je sais le faire" peut être préférable.

C'est bien que vous postez en français! Merci, je ça aime, même si je ne parle pas français très bien.

<< je ça aime >>

-- Petite erreur: on dit "j'aime ça" (= "I love it")

Par contre, c'est "je l'aime" pour "I love her/him"

'Ça', 'ceci', 'cela', 'celui-ci', 'celle-là' etc. viennent toujours après le verbe.

Curiously spanish vs french, both latin language:

I can do it
(Yo) puedo hacerlo (hacer + lo) spanish
(Je) peux le faire (le + faire) french

(Yo) and (Je) are optionals.

<< (Yo) and (Je) are optionals. >>

'Je' n'est pas optionnel !

To PARISIEN:

I wonder if spanish is easier to learn than italian for the french people? or the other way around? Thanks!
