Why are the Spaniards so mouse?

The Spanish military record is worse than Albanian's, just about every nation Spain has tried to take on head-to-head without help has kicked their ass.

Spain tried to invade England using armada, a country of at the time about 10 million and got their ass kicked, they had their ass kicked by the Dutch in the early 16th century, they've had their ass kicked by the Moors, they've even had their ass kicked by Ottoman.

Contrary to popular belief, they must be one of the most unsuccessful military nations in the world.

Deep down are the Spaniards are mouse who try desperately to masquerade themselves as macho guys but in reality they're maricones?

It's not that bad!

If you take everything into consideration you will realize that we Spanish are amongst the most successful downs syndrome sufferers ever!

entonces ¿por qué nos dais tanta importancia? al ocuparos de nosotros vosotros !unos seres superiores!

Ja, ja, ja, ja

Nice try!

Only Spain, France, UK and USA were the most powerful countries on Earth during a century at least.

Spain was the most powerful country on Earth during XV, XVI and XVII centuries and we won a lot of battles, but not all of them.

Besides, Spanish language is more spoken than English or French as mother tongue.

The Spanish are weak and mousen like the French.

The Romance nations don't make particularly good warriors, Spain, France and Italy are all quite poor at fighting.

Romania, Portugual, are rubbish too. Andorra, Monaco and San Marino are so crap they don't even bother with having armies. And Vatican City (like all Romance have historically) even needs protection with their Germanic mercenaries!

I don't know about Spanish, but Italian soldiers are very unorganized. I think you can pull this through all Romance peoples. Very odd, when you compare this to the discipline of the Roman Empire you have to conclude that a lot had changed.

<<The Romance nations don't make particularly good warriors, Spain, France and Italy are all quite poor at fighting.>>

The Romance nations are quite good at fighting, particularly Spain, France and Romania. I don't know about Portuguese tough. And I agree, Italy has a very bad record. As for Andorra, Monaco and San Marino these countries are so small that having armies wouldn't make any difference.

You are wrong, the Dutch didn't defeat the Spanish, only the Northern provinces did ,and only after one century of fighting. The South (nowadays Flanders) remained under Spanish control.
Baldewin   Sun May 02, 2010 1:18 pm GMT
It's true that the Spanish army was known for its discipline in the day while the Dutch rebels were a rabble of disorderly mercenary highwaymen and other opportunists.
In the Spanish army most soldiers where Swiss German, Walloon and Northern Italian I believe. The Northern province stood no chance hadn't they received help from other Protestant nations as England.

Most of soldiers that invaded Flanders were Spanish. Also there were German mercenaries but they didn't represent the majority and of course there were not Northern Italians at all. Spanish soldiers said about their conquests across Europe:
" España mi natura, Italia mi aventura and Flandes mi sepultura" This means they were from Spain, and fighted quite easily in Italy but feared they could be killed by more ferocious natives in Flanders (Flanders included nowadays Netherlands).

The Spanish did have their days of glory, no doubt. And France was a great colonizing power, although its status on the UN Security Council in modern times is somewhat questionable, as it is no longer such a world power, instead it should be replaced by places like Brazil or India maybe. Italy was disunited for a lot of its more modern history, so it entered the colonial game late.

One thing about Romance people is that they tend to be prone to violence and cruelty in their punishments. Ranging from the crucifixions of the Romans to the Spanish Inquisition and colonization, the vendetta system and mafia of Italy, the impalement of Turks by Dracula, and the guillotine of the French Revolution. Bunch of bloody mofos.

Spanish Inquisition killed less people than German or English inquisitions.
