<Why don't you choose Spanish,French or Hindi or Shanghainese?>
<Wo fingbudong, are chinese mandarin the formal pure language type of chinese?>

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Re:

(Hindi: As a matter of fact, Hindi seems not important in Asia, because India can be considered as an English-speaking country, and in China there's almost few companies or organizations related to India, so Hindi is of little use in China.)

(Shanghainese: It is now only spoken in Shanghai city, and too many Shanghai people can speak Mandarin in public or in companies. In other words, Shanghainese is a declining dialect of Chinese, which is spoken in informal places or in families by Shanghai people. So it's not necessary for me then.)

(French & Spanish): Both French and Spansh aren't very important for Chinese people, especially in terms of finding a good job or have a chance to get a rise on salary or promotion, unless you try to work for any French-speaking companies or organizations, but neither companies nor organizations is easy to find out in China, at least they're far less than the ones of US, UK, Germany, Japan, probably even less than Italy too.)

(Mandarin: Our Mandarin was mostly based on northern Chinese dialect, especially derived from "Beijing" dialect, and in Mainland China, we use Simplified Characters while Taiwan people still use Traditional Characters. And Mandarin seems much easier than Cantonese, Minnanese(Taiwanese), Hakka or Shanghainese. As for foreigners, you should certainly choose Mandarin to learn as your Chinese language. It's actually not that difficult as you imagined. Mandarin is the only official language in Mainland China.)

Thank you very much! Happy to talk with you!

Hi ZhongGuoRen,

I would suggest you to learn Albanian and this is because it is getting so popular nowdays in the Balkans and in Europe. Every where you go in Balkans, you will have to deal with Albanian and Albanians in a way or another. Even in Switzerland, Austria and Germany there is a slang language that youth use, which is based in Albanian.

Besides that, it is one of the oldest single indo-european languages, just like greek (or hebrew) that has survived for so long. One more reason to learn Albanian that it is very fast becoming an official language in almost every balkanic country. Lol...Albanians are like Chinese but in miniature (numbers).

I was a missionary there with my church and stayed for 2 years. Great place, people, beaches. The language was easy to learn and hard to forget.

Good luck in your journey!

Greek and Hebrew are OK too I guess, but never had a chance to learn them.

Steve

Thank you very much for your advice. Hallelujah & Immanuel.

In fact, in China, the course books of Hebrew are more than Greek or Albanian. I will think it over according to everybody's advice.

Wish you always happy and healthy!!!

Thank you for your clarification about Mandarine Chinese.

"China calls for deepening of economic, trade cooperation with Greece

Wu said Sino-Greek trade had topped 500 million U.S. dollars in 2000 and reached 2.02 billion dollars last year. There are 58 ongoing projects with Greece's direct investment in China, and the project contracts signed between the two countries have amounted to a value of 290 million dollars.

It really surprised me that you can read through Chinese websites.

Have you ever learned Mandarin at university or just on your own?

I think that you can travel around China and maybe you will love it.

Come to Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, you will know more about China.

ZhongGuoRen ,

I would take hewbrew instead of greek anytime. When you talk greek, people laugh at you, really! I don't know what's wrong with greek language, but people take it very funny...it's disguisting the way they laugh any time one speaks greek...it's like you are missing half of the brain or something...it's just greek, c'mon...

Are there any Jewish Americans/Europeans or Israelis in this forum?

Would you please say anything about your feelings on Hebrew language?

Thanks a lot!
Leonidas   Sun Dec 24, 2006 8:36 am GMT
Sorry ZhongGuoRen for my rude and spam comments.
I don't know about Hebrew.
