Intelligibility

Hello!

This question goes for Portuguese speakers:

"How well do you understand spoken Spanish? How would you describe it in percent?"

"Qué bién entendís el castellano hablado? En porcentaje qué diríai?"

Obrigado!

Ian

PS: Podís también contestar en portugués o castellano. =)

I'm a native speaker of English, but I speak Spanish and understand Portuguese. I've found that Brazilians can understand Spanish very well. It's not as easy the other way around. This topic has come up here before, so you may want to use the search function on Antimoon.

I imagine the "difficulty" for Spanish speakers are the nasal sounds. Portuguese probably sounds muffled for them, or mushy especially when the endings of the words seem to disappear.

I don't know anything about European Portuguese, so I'm not sure how it is on that front.

There are a lot of "little" differences between S and P and clearing them up is a little bit of a task, but Audio-Forum has or used to have a book called "From Spanish to Portuguese"* for people who already know Spanish and want to learn Portuguese.

Thank you, K.T.!

I'm also pretty sure this theme has been talked about many times before, I just don't know which words I should enter in the search engine to get a specific results concerning the subject.. =(

I know that spoken European Portuguese is relatively hard for Spanish speakers to understand. I've heard that many times. But I don't know how it is the other way around.
I'm not saying that the question goes only to European Portuguese speakers. This is also open for Portuguese speakers in other continents. =)

Greetings,

Ian

Qué bién "entendís" el castellano hablado? En porcentaje qué "diríai"?"

Qué formas verbales son esas???? No deberian ser entendéis o entiendes o entienden?? La comunidad hispanohablante es mas amplia de lo que pensas...

Sigh. Can't Ian ever just post without other people (or probably the same damn troll) asking about the vos conjugations?

Ah, y por cierto... ¿qué forma es "pensas"? Qué ironía.

Ian, what does this mean:

"En porcentaje qué diríai?"

I'm a native speaker but I don't understand this.
