Anybody here know where the phrases "No way" and "No way, Jose" originated? I've had a long argument with somebody about this, so I'd be grateful for your input.

Probably some "American" dude/dudette trying to be cute. It's a poor attempt at rhyming the name JOSE (HOE-SAY according to an "American") with NO WAY.
Is Jose pronounced Hoe-say or Hoe-zay? I say Hoe-zay.
HO-se (the e like "fetch")
sl2
...and the "o" in Jose isn't a fully rounded "o" like it is in "hoe".

There is no [z] sound in Spanish. The letter "z" is pronounced [s].
in english its pronounced with the z sound
Noospeling = ''No way Jose'' = ''noe wae Hoezae''.
