wunt

I saw this word written in the newspaper today. But, I looked in the dictionary and couldn't find it. What does ''wunt'' mean? It's the first time I've seen the word.

It could have been a misspelling of "want".

Or a transcription of "wasn't it" said very quickly, which can look like [wV?n-It] or even [wVnt].

Mxsmanic, Why would a transcription of ''wasn't it'' said very quickly appear in the newspaper?

I'd think that it was probably a misspelling of ''want''.

To me "wunt" sounds like "wouldn't" said quickly.

Why didn't you transcribe the rest of the text around it if you saw it in a newspaper? It's context would sort this one out.
