Yes. But typically, at least in America, you would say that you KNOW him, not KNEW him. Maybe this is just me, but the context of this is typically that you see someone you haven't seen in a long time, so it's in the present.

On the other hand "I knew HER...", takes a different spin.

lol though to get the context right it would involve a certain kind of facial expression (a wink or something of that sort).

lol or saying "I knew her, if you know what I mean..." That would get the point across...

If the person you knew is dead, or you haven't been in contact for a long time, then 'knew' is ok. If you keep in touch, then 'know is correct'.

It should be "all right." Trust me, I do major editing for the SAT exams in the United States. If they trust me, you can.
