Where does the word OK or Okay come from? I have always wanted to know!
Do the individual letters O and K actually stand for words?

I've heard it comes from Africa (but is that just "folk entymology?)

There's also the theory that it comes from Kinderhook, NY (a town up in Columbia county, where US 9 crosses NY 21).

This should shed some light on the subject:

It pays to search the site (sometimes):

Some Greeks claim it comes from their "ólla kallá" which pretty much means "all good" or "okay". But that's just them... ;)
