Unequal comparisons in Spanish
Can somebody help me with this? I'm having trouble.
How would you translate something like this into spanish:
"Those new buildings are twice as big as the old ones"
Esos edificios nuevos son el doble de grandes que los viejos.
Also you could have said:
Esos/aquellos edificios nuevos son dos veces más grandes que los (edificios) antiguos/viejos.
I don't know in English but in Spanish you usually can say the same thing in a few ways.
it gives you more chance to express yourself.
Thanks alot!
heres another that I need help with:
"The population of Spain is twice as large as the population of the State of California."
My guess based on JLK's translation of the previous: La población de España es el doble de grande que la población del estado de California.
^^any good?
Could you also say " el triple de grande que", or " el cuadruplo de grande que"??
"La población de España es el doble de grande que la población del estado de California."
>>Excellent.
<< Could you also say " el triple de grande que", or " el cuadruplo de grande que"

You can say " el triple de grande que" but whey you talk about 4x, 5x, etc... you have to to say "es cuatro veces más grande que", es "diez veces más grande que", and so on. "Cuádruple" also exists in Spanish but it's more restricted to science and technology rather than everyday language.
