Did I sound dorky?

I used the expression "My boss has good rhetorical skills" when speaking to someone on the phone. The last thing I want is to sound like a dork to this person. Should I have used " My boss is eloquent" or "My boss has good verbal skills" instead?
I am in the 25-35 age group and so is the person I was speaking to when I used that expression.

What's wrong with "My boss has good rhetorical skills"?

I guess I thought it sounded a bit too formal, which was not the intended tone of our conversation. I may bthinking too much into it.

Doesn't sound overly formal to me.

Depending on the context, I think it might have been better to say "My boss has good verbal skills". But it doesn't seem like a big deal.

Having good rhetorical skills and having good verbal skills don't necessarily mean the same thing (the former being more specific, while the latter being more general). There's nothing wrong with saying what you mean.
