No, but I remember watching some woman on TV and thinking she was just from the East Coast, when it turned out that she was actually Irish.

The opposite. I thought that the person was Canadian but he turned out to be from northern Ireland.
I have confused accents. I confused some Scottish accents with North American ones. It is not really surprising when you look at the place names and the surnames.
