IPA, the w -sounds

What is the difference between the English /w/ in ‘will’ and ‘want’ and the Spanish /β/ in ‘lavar’ and ‘selva’? They sound so totally same to me.

The Spanish usually has a touch of the lips whereas the English doesn't/.

The /w/ is generally made with rounded lips.

It's almost the same sound, in informal writing (on youtube or forums) you can find many Hispanic people writing weno or wueno instead of bueno.
