MY COMMUNICATIVE GRAMMAR STUDY GUIDE

I came across a spelling mistake in "The Internet Grammar of English", which although free, is published by a reputable organisation.

("inspecifiable": http://www.ucl.ac.uk/internet-grammar/minor/minor.htm)

To confirm whether or not this was indeed a spelling mistake, I did a Google search - inspecifiable definition - and I found this (see below). Which is quite interesting? It uses colours to highlight the different word groups.

My Communicative Grammar Study Guide
The definition of a noun as a word denoting a person, place, or thing, ...... as in (4) or to the weather, or to something inspecifiable, as in (5). ...

Robin Michael,
Why you don't make a blog or web site?
You have much content!
You can make a big site!
I think that you are losing the focus of this forum.

Hi,

At the moment I am probably spending too much time learning English Grammar etc. but that will not always be the case.

What is the focus of the forum?

English Language?

I am a native speaker and I have never been taught or learnt English grammar. For people learning English as a foreign language, English grammar is something they have to learn.

Why don't you comment on whether or not learning English grammar is helpful or not?

This guide that I have drawn attention too, is very good. But is it helpful?

Do you know of any guides that are much more useful?

British schools do not teach children English grammar?
No wonder English language has gone to the dogs, indeed.

I agree, your guide is very helpful, and pleasant to read, I saved in my computer, sometimes it is good to look up a English grammar book.

"This guide that I have drawn attention too, is very good."

Keep studying.

Robin Michael,
are you really a native speaker of ENGLISH? I mean, a lot of your writings are a bit foreign-like.

Furthermore, your sentences are sometimes obfuscating. "I have never been taught or learnt English grammar" should rather be "I have never learnt or been taught English grammar", as you have not "been learnt" anything.

And if you ARE a native speaker of English, did you go to SCHOOL?
And if you did, did you ever ATTEND class?

He's a wannabe German. Oops, I mean, he's a Wannabe German.

Obfuscation is the concealment of meaning in communication, making it confusing and harder to interpret.

"I have never been taught or learnt English grammar"

"I have never been taught English grammar"

"I have never learnt English grammar"

So, you think my sentence is a little clumsy and that it should be:

"I have never learnt or been taught English grammar"

Yes, you are right!

"I have never learnt English grammar"

Should be

I have not learnt English grammar.

which sounds pretty awful

I have not studied English grammar.

I would have thought that the last sentence was painful obvious.

So, do you too, think the country is going to the dogs.

Bye for now

TITLE: Wonderful World (Don't Know Much)
Lyrics and Chords

[Capo 2]

Don't know much about history
Don't know much biology
Don't know much about a science book
Don't know much about the French I took
But I do know that I love you
And I know that if you love me too
What a wonderful world this would be

/ A F#m / Bm E / : / A D / / E A /

Don't know much about geography
Don't know much trigonometry
Don't know much about algebra
Don't know what a slide rule is for
But I know that one and one is two
And if this one could be with you
What a wonderful world this would be

Now, I don't claim to be an "A" student
But I'm trying to be
For maybe by being an "A" student baby
I can win your love for me

/ E7 A / / B7 - / Bm7 E7 /

{Repeat first verse}

You've been an 'A' student of what?

Robin Michael,

<<"I have never learnt English grammar" should be "I have not learnt English grammar.">>

There's nothing wrong with those sentences.

<<the last sentence was painful obvious.>>

No, it was PAINFULLY obvious.

Fusspot: <<Keep studying.>>

Keep ON studying. I always frown upon those who omit that preposition.
