Modern French Music Artists?

étudiante   Thu Jul 16, 2009 12:54 am GMT
Salut!
So, I am trying to learn French and what music I can find in the language has been helpful but I'm always open to new artists- but it is so hard to find any on a simple google search!
I really like rock and french hip hop, but I will listen to most kinds of music. Merci!

Jeanne Cherhal is probably the best France has to offer currently.
This girl is unbelievably GREAT:

Otherwise the best French song I know 'Les Filles de l'Aurore' by William Sheller. First released in the early 80's, this video was taken live in Brussels a couple of years back. IMHO one of the best pop songs EVER:

In addition to the piano wonderful Jeanne Cherhal also plays the bass on stage. A fiddle-shaped bass, that is.
Some female McCartney!

I know I like to think so :)
Is the French Canadian accent as bad as French people say? If so, should I even listen to their music...?

French Canadian accent isn't that bad! I love it, it's very refreshing and natural (Very infectious too. Only a few hours in Montréal and I can't help speaking just like the locals).

An artist from Quebec: Lynda Lemay of course, one of the most prolific and inventive songwriters, immensely popular on both sides of the ocean:

Actually her French is much more easy to understand than the way most French artists mumble their words.
Here a very good song, by Axel Bauer and Zazie, but I have a hard time getting the lyrics:
