preto:"There are not so many blacks in Brazil..."
You've gotta be kidding, right? http://en.mercopress.com/2009/04/25/black-population-becomes-the-majority-in-brazil "... Black population becomes the majority in Brazil Brazil and its almost 200 million population is no longer a country of white majority. The credit now belongs to the 49.6% black or mulatto population compared to the 49.4% defined as white and this is set to increase in coming years with that percentage increasing to 54, according to a recent report from the Rio do Janeiro Federal University." A person that calls himself white in Brazil, is often considered black in the USA. Today, about half of the Brazilians have some African ancestry. That's not small, that's 100 million people. |

|
| Nowadays, the government does not seek differences between a pure black, mulatto, light mulatto, all not-whites-Japanese-Indians are PARDO [dark] in official statistics. |

|
| Evinória, note that some of the differences you mentioned in Brazilian Portuguese can also be used here in Portugal: bobo, sorvete, fofocar, pirralho, etc |

<<Today, about half of the Brazilians have some African ancestry.>>
Its far more than that, according to recent genetic studies done in Brazil: <<De acordo com esse mesmos estudos genéticos, 45% de todos os brasileiros, brancos e negros, teriam cerca de 90% de genes africanos subsaarianos; e que cerca de 86% possuem 10% ou mais de genes africanos subsaarianos.[24] http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?pid=S0103-40142004000100004&script=sci_arttext&tlng=en#tab06>> Nearly all brazilians, including the 'whites' and 'blacks' are of mixed racial origin, so its meaningless to try to categorize them. The census figures just reflect how people self-identify. |
