č/ć, š/ś

Hi people,

I'm interested in pronunciation of these four sounds. I know all Slavonic languages have those sounds, but, until now, I've seen them only in Polish and Croatian since I don't know cyrilic and I cannot read Russian or Ukranian.

You can write the IPA alphabet, and then, please try to explain me how to pronounce them correctly in standard languages. I study phonetics, but my teacher is stupid and he cannot distinguish them properly.

Thank you!

oops, i haven't noticed that those diacritics hadn't been published well.
So, i repeat: č/ć and š/ś

first of all, those sounds are pronounced differently in every region in Poland and in Croatia, but in standard languages, the pronunciation is the same. Ans in Croatian there is no ś, but č/ć and dž/đ do exist.

č [t͡ʂ]
ć [t͡ɕ]
š/sz [ʂ]
ś [ɕ]
ž/ż [ʐ]

sorry, but i cannot help you with the pronunciation tips, you have to hear them.

Guys, if you are interested in slavonic languages, please learn Slovak, it's much softer and nicer than the other ones. Ukrainian is nice too. On the other hand, I can't bear Polish, Bulgarian and Serbian, they all sound like barking dogs
