I've heard Dominicans speaking Spanish before and I didn't even realize it was Spanish at first, it sounds like it has a lot of African influence in accent.
Why does Dominican Spanish have such an African sound to it?
It doesn't to me.
Carribean Spanish sounds like Canarian Spanish, with just slight variation.

Yeah, Canarian Spanish sounds a lot like some American Spanish accents. Spain itself, as tiny as it is , has enormous variety of Spanish accents.
