Here in Australia education is compulsory until 15-17 depending on the state you live in. In victoria it is until 15 but will be 16 next year 2007. In the USA it varies from state to state as well between 16-18 with either 16 or 18 most popular.

I've always heard of people being able to drop out of school at 16 in the US. I didn't know there were any states where it was compulsory after that age.

And I've always thought of elementary school as being primary, middle & high school as secondary, and college (or university, if you prefer) as being tertiary education.
