Pronunciation of the word few

Hello,

The phonetic transcription for the pronunciation of the word "few" is /fju:/ on many dictionaries like Oxford Advanced Learners. So I suppose "ew" should be pronounced like the initial sound of "university". Nonetheless, when I hear native people speaking even on dictionaries recordings, I hear a falling diphtongue sound like "fIw". For instance, the Free Online Dictionary provides three recordings for this words (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/few). On the British version sounds to me clearly /fju:/ while the American one sounds to me much more like /fIw/.

I would like to know whether it is a problem of perception on myself or not.

Thank you.

The American pronunciation on that page sounds wrong to me. As you said, it sounds more like "feel".

It is /fju:/ in American English and British English.

Some Americans tend to pronounce /u:/ as a diphthong with a fronted nucleus (ranging from [uw] to [Iw]), especially when preceded by /j/. But the /j/ is still preserved in those cases. So it's [fjIw] rather than [fIw].
