Odd accent of Lyse Doucet on BBC! %>_<%

Have you ever noticed the presence of Lyse Doucet as a somewhat special presenter and reporter on the BBC World News, JUST because of her odd accent of speaking English among all the BBCers?

As Shuimo observes, her English is heavily rhoticized with American influence, yet by no means quite American, still far from being British accent!

One thing is for sure: She speaks English with an oddly strong accent that beats proper categorizing!

Shuimo is wondering what brand of English accent is she speaking? Or is it just her idiosyncracy she developed for herself? O(∩_∩)O~

Lyse is a charming person, and her accent doesn't grate on my ear at all.

Lyse Doucet does have an interesting accent. I suspect that her speech has been affected by time in the UK; for someone from Bathurst New Brunswick it would be perceived as hyper-correct. In this 1989 piece on the CBC, which is quite long, you can hear it distinctly, and here she was only 31 (today she is 52). http://archives.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/clips/17364/

KEEP CANADA WHITE's ignorance that a New Brunswicker should go back to France is about as typical as one would expect from someone who names himself K.C.W.

Thanks for the link, EA. It's interesting politically, too.
Naturally, her voice is deeper now, but she's got the same rounded vowels.

Thanks so much for the wonderful link!^_^
I don't think her accent has changed in the slightest, except being deeper as the above poster said!

It also fully explains why she has been sent to Afganstan again a few days ago covering Obama's surprise visit!

I guess she must have had a sort of mixed feelings subsuming attachment towards the place and people there!Afater all, the fact that part of her youth was spent in a turbulent place wud bring her memories of the intriguing episodes towards the very last days of the cold war period, isn't it?

BTW: the Internet is such a good thing in that it can easily piece together or locate things that wud otherwise have been impossible to materialize in the old days without it!

Lyse Doucet was born in the Atlantic region of Canada, in New Brunswick. She has Acadian, Miqmaq and Irish ancestors, so that is where her exotic accent originates.
