personal revelations?

Can anybody tell me what personal revelations refer to in the following context? The last sentence just dosen't make sense to me:

"...No doubt Jerry had already informed his mark that I was a chronically unemployed writer, which was usually about all it took to get desirable women to steer clear of me at all costs. That was one of the liabilities of getting hammered every Friday and unburdening yourself on poeple you thought were your friends. The personal revelations always came back to haunt you."

He unburdened himself on people. That is he told people about his problems. Problems are like burdens. To tell is to reveal. He told people about himself. He revealed personal information. He gave personal revelations. The information was passed on and caused others to treat him differently. He didn't like the way he is treated. The personal revelations came back to haunt him.
