Reply to "Nice to meet you"

I know it's alright to reply with "Nice to meet you too".
What about a shorter "me too"?
Several days ago when I said "Nice to meet you" to an american he replied with "you too". Is it also right??

I think "you too" is more correct than "me too". Keep in mind that the full phrase is "It's nice to meet you." "Me too" doesn't really make sense. "You too" has the meaning of "it's nice to meet you also".

I would say 'My pleasure'

'You too' and 'and you'.

'Me too' sounds wrong.

Ben.

Can we say "same here" as a reply??

A simple "Likewise" would also work.

Why not just be natural and say anything suitable as long as it's friendly and polite? Don't get too wound up about formality.

"nice to meet you too" is what I say

why's "me too" incorrect? My teacher says it's the most informal and shortest reply to "nice to meet you" (and he's british)
Guest   Mon May 01, 2006 1:33 am GMT
Because saying "me too" is like saying "It's also nice for me to meet me."

>>Because saying "me too" is like saying "It's also nice for me to meet me."<<

The matter is that fixed expressions need not "make sense". And no, "me too" is NOT incorrect, despite what you think it somehow "should" be.

"Nice to meet you ''
-Likewise
