Is Laura Pausini's accent standard? I've heard she's from Emilia-Romagna.

I would say yes, it is. She at times seems to pronounce her "z" incorrectly, like an "s", but I don't have many examples of this. The most frequent example of her pronouncing it incorrectly is when she say "Grazie". Instead of "grat-zee-eh" it is "gras-see-eh", but she doesn't pronounce it incorrectly with too much consistentsy.

Most of the younger generation tend to be able to speak both standard Italian and their town's or city's dialect. Most Italian news and popular songs you find today will be spoken/sung in standard Italian. A few dialects are cooler than others and are used outside town walls with more frequency. In my experience, the dialect from Roma seems popular.

I also learn some words from singers and their songs like Celion (I'm Alive-I heard it every day-),Britney,Bryan (especially his amazing song--Here I am--),Westlife,Back Street Boys and N sync..

Cheers.

<<I agree, I have learned many English words from music.

Someone created an interesting topic about posting music links on antimoon to help us learn and listen how a language sounds. I think it was a good idea, but the topic was unfortunately deleted. I don’t think is a bad idea to listen to Afrikaans song, etc. If anyone knows some links were we can download music in your language, post them here. >>

It's true but not in every case, only if the singers articulate well.

A mi no me gusta Bocelli, es una musica "pseudo-opera" muy comercial y no muy interessante.

I agree.

Andrea Bocelli - Bésame Mucho (Kiss me a lot)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsmWzFNw0_o

Here are the lyrics so you can learn some Spanish pronounciation, he sings in both English and Spanish.

Bésame, bésame mucho
Como si fuera esta noche
La última vez
Bésame, bésame mucho
Que tengo miedo a perderte
Perderte después
Bésame, bésame mucho
Como si fuera esta noche
La última vez
Bésame, bésame mucho
Que tengo miedo a perderte
Perderte después
Quiero tenerte muy cerca
Mirarme en tus ojos
Verte junto a mi
Piensa que tal ves mañana
Yo ya estaré lejos
Muy lejos de ti
Bésame, bésame mucho
Como si fuera esta noche
La última vez
Bésame, bésame mucho
Que tengo miedo a perderte
Perderte después
Bésame, bésame mucho
Que tengo miedo a perderte
Perderte después
Que tengo miedo a perderte
Perderte después
English translation:
Kiss Me A Lot
Kiss me, kiss me a lot,
As if tonight was
the last time.
Kiss me, kiss me a lot,
Because I fear to lose you,
To lose you again.
Kiss me, kiss me a lot,
As if tonight was
the last time.
Kiss me, kiss me a lot,
Because I fear to lose you,
To lose you again.
I want to have you very close
To see myself in your eyes,
To see you next to me,
Think that perhaps tomorrow
I already will be far,
very far from you.
Kiss me, kiss me a lot,
As if tonight was
the last time.
Kiss me, kiss me a lot,
Because I fear to lose you,
To lose you again.
Kiss me, kiss me a lot,
Because I fear to lose you,
To lose you again.
Because I fear to lose you.

On the interview with pausini, I'd say she has an accent far from being native, but when she sings is actually quite good.
Guest   Thu Aug 16, 2007 10:39 pm GMT
why no french music here yet?
Tiffany   Fri Aug 17, 2007 4:33 pm GMT
I'd say Laura Pausini's Italian accent is native because she is native Italian born and raised - really how can an native not have a native accent? However, she may speak Italian with an accent from Emilia-Romagna.
Tiffany   Fri Aug 17, 2007 4:35 pm GMT
Oh wait, were you talking about Spanish? In that case I'd agree. I apologize, I did not see the reference to an interview in Spanish above your post.

The lyric about love is on the video. Good way to learn a language in this case, spanish. worth watching:
Amaral Chetes Si tu no Vuelves

The theme of this lyric is similar to 'i will survive'. Pura esperanza.
Duo Dinámico - Resistiré

Hope it helps you to learn languages and be a better person.
