Pleased with/by

I can’t choose the preposition, either seems good to me.

He was greatly pleased with/by the answer.

The difference is very subtle. I would prefer 'pleased by' in most situations. 'Pleased with' is used more about a person, I think.

Use either one. But there IS a subtle difference -- I would need to know more about the context to tell you which one to use in a specific situation.

I’ll make a couple of contexts.
1. A teacher asks a question in a classroom. A pupil answers it.
2. Bush asks a senior military official about the current situation in Baghdad.

Actually, could you please explain that subtle difference? I am not sure my examples fit it.
