A- without the books we've got nothing.
B- so lets get the books.
A- great idea.
B-except you blew them up at the courthouse.

that was a part of a dialogue from a movie. my question is what did A mean by saying except you blew them up? can books be exploded or burn?

I suppose if the whole courthouse was blown up, the books inside would be as well, but you're right, we don't usually say that someone blew up books.

I understand that the verb to blow up can never mean to burn!!!
