Pronunciation of threshold.

Do you pronounce 'threshold' with: only the sh sound, the sh sound plus the h sound or the s sound and the h sound. Sorry I can't write in phonetic alphabet but I still understand it.

Thank you for the information.

Josh, do you pronounce the "h"?

<<Yes, I do. I thought that was the only pronunciation, but I just checked my OED, and it list the /h/-less pronunciation first. I don't think I've ever heard any North Americans say it without /h/, so it may be a British thing.>>

It might be.

My roommate and I are always having an argument on that - she pronounces it with /h/, I pronounce it without. :-)

I myself similarly say ["Tr\ESho:Ud] for "threshold", that is, with both the "sh" and "h".

Exactly. It would just look weird spelled "threshhold" which is why it's spelled "threshold".

Tank you for the answers, I also pronounce it with the /h/ sound. Threshhold may look weird but hitchhiker is spelled with double h.

I pronounce "threshold" as ["Tr\EShoU5d] - in other words, I pronounce the <h>.
