wake vs wake up

Hello,

Please, is there any difference between wake and wake up?

1. Walter woke at dawn.
2. Walter woke up at dawn.
3. Wake!
4. Wake up!
Are they all correct and common?

Thanks.

"Woke up" and "wake up" are much more common. Using it intransitively without "up" is acceptable in a literary context, though.

Wouldn't really use the imperative "wake!", only "wake up!"
