Which is correct: "too much far" or "much too far"?

I'd prefer "much too far".

"too much far" is wrong. "much too far" is right.

"Too much far" sounds more like an incorrect way of saying "too much distance", rather than emphasizine "too far".

You could imagine "too far" as being a single adjective, and the word "much" modifying it. So "much" would have to go before it.

much too far

'far' is an adjective, 'too' is an adverb qualifying 'far', 'much' is an adverb qualifying 'too'

too much water

'water' is a noun, 'much' is an adjective qualifying water, 'too' is an adverb qualifying 'much'

This distinction is what confuses ESL learners. The thing is to remember 'much too' before an adjective, 'too much' before a non count noun.

What about:

"It can't be too much farther"?

How is "too much farther" analyzed?
