<<Spanish is declining because it was wiped out in the Philippines, Marianas Islands and Guam in the early 2oth century. In the late 20th century in it's being wiped out in Morocco, Equatorial Guinea and Western Sahara.>>
Oh, mon ami! What are you talking about?
In Morocco and Western Sahara, Spanish is a second language by a lot of speakers, like French. French WAS official language, like Spanish, and now is a second language too. In Equatorial Guinea, Spanish is official, and the first European language of the country.
In Philippines, Marianas and Guam, Spanish is not official, but at least is spoken several Spanish Creole languages like Chavacano or Chamorro (official in Guam and Marianas). I think that you can NOT say the same in Vietnam.
Secondly, French is declining in:
-Old French Asia: Lebanon, Syria, Vietnam, Laos, Kampuchea, etc. So, in ALL the old Asian French colonies, your language is disappearing. It is hardly spoken by 1-2 million as second language
- Caribbean: French is a minority language in Haiti, Martinique, Guadaloupe, etc. There, people speak Creole, a very different language. It is hardly spoken by 1-2 million as second language.
- Canada: French is the second language of Canada, but you know probably that the percentage of mother tongue speakers and second speakers is decreasing every year.
- Old French Maghreb: French was official in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania. Nowadays, Arabic is the official language. It is true that French is a second language in these countries, but in touristic places you can also speak English, Spanish, German, Italian, etc.
- Old French Africa: in many countries Arabic or English are official too, and more useful. At the same time African French is changing into another Creoles (where French is spoken). So, in the same French Africa, your language is a minority. It is only used in the capital of the country by diplomats and policemen (only some of them speak it, of course).
- Europe: French is a minority language in Belgium and Switzerland, where English is more useful in some areas (Dutch Belgium and German Switzerland). In France, a lot of population speak English, Spanish or Arabic. German and English are more useful in European Union.
There is NOT an important and big area where the language is the mother tongue of at least 100 million people. That is the important difference with Chinese, English, Hindi, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Russian, Bengali or Japanese. French is the first language in NOWHERE.
It is the mother tongue of 75 million people around the world. Even regional languages of India or China are more spoken than French.
In short, your language is the weakest of the international languages!
