<<Spanish is declining because it was wiped out in the Philippines, Marianas Islands and Guam in the early 2oth century. In the late 20th century in it's being wiped out in Morocco, Equatorial Guinea and Western Sahara.>>

Oh, mon ami! What are you talking about?

In Morocco and Western Sahara, Spanish is a second language by a lot of speakers, like French. French WAS official language, like Spanish, and now is a second language too. In Equatorial Guinea, Spanish is official, and the first European language of the country.

In Philippines, Marianas and Guam, Spanish is not official, but at least is spoken several Spanish Creole languages like Chavacano or Chamorro (official in Guam and Marianas). I think that you can NOT say the same in Vietnam.

Secondly, French is declining in:

-Old French Asia: Lebanon, Syria, Vietnam, Laos, Kampuchea, etc. So, in ALL the old Asian French colonies, your language is disappearing. It is hardly spoken by 1-2 million as second language

- Caribbean: French is a minority language in Haiti, Martinique, Guadaloupe, etc. There, people speak Creole, a very different language. It is hardly spoken by 1-2 million as second language.

- Canada: French is the second language of Canada, but you know probably that the percentage of mother tongue speakers and second speakers is decreasing every year.

- Old French Maghreb: French was official in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania. Nowadays, Arabic is the official language. It is true that French is a second language in these countries, but in touristic places you can also speak English, Spanish, German, Italian, etc.

- Old French Africa: in many countries Arabic or English are official too, and more useful. At the same time African French is changing into another Creoles (where French is spoken). So, in the same French Africa, your language is a minority. It is only used in the capital of the country by diplomats and policemen (only some of them speak it, of course).

- Europe: French is a minority language in Belgium and Switzerland, where English is more useful in some areas (Dutch Belgium and German Switzerland). In France, a lot of population speak English, Spanish or Arabic. German and English are more useful in European Union.

There is NOT an important and big area where the language is the mother tongue of at least 100 million people. That is the important difference with Chinese, English, Hindi, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Russian, Bengali or Japanese. French is the first language in NOWHERE.

It is the mother tongue of 75 million people around the world. Even regional languages of India or China are more spoken than French.

In short, your language is the weakest of the international languages!

"It is the mother tongue of 75 million people around the world."

Alright, let it be.

French-speaking population in Europe:
62 Mio (F), 4.5 mio (B), 1.5 mio (CH + Lux) = 68 million
+ 7 million (Can.) : 75 millions

So, basically, according to our resident Hispanic spammer and is crazy stats French isn't spoken at all outside of the aforementioned countries.

If you REALLY believe that crap, how do you want us not to believe that Latinos are just a bunch of terminal retards?

Do you know the difference between mother tongue speakers and second language speakers? Who is the retard?

To an Hispanic, mother tongue speakers are everything because people don't bother learning Spanish as a second language. They're insecure about it. French has hundreds of million of secondary speakers. It is the international acceptance of a language that makes it strong.

You are right. Spanish is probably the second most studied language worldwide.

French is studied as second language in third world countries: Morocco, Congo, Lebanon, and so on. In USA, the most important country in the world, Spanish is the most studied language. French is only an European language and as such it has too much competence, it has no future. Only English and Spanish are important because they are spread across other continents aside from Europe.

You'll have to do better than Spanish media sources, my friend. All credible studies I have seen reveals that French is the 2nd most studied language in the world. The vast majority of people who are studying Spanish are in the USA and Brazil. It is little more than obscure language anywhere else in the world. Secondly, as you certainly must know by now, Americans are among the worst language learners in the world for two reasons:

1.) Americans don't give a damn about other languages

2.) The foreign language curriculum is a failure.

So while on paper it looks like a lot of Americans are learning Spanish, only a small amount of people, perhaps in the thousands can speak it fluently. I'm not familiar with the situation in Brazil, but considering Spanish and Portuguese are mere dialects of the same language, Brazil shouldn't even be included in the figure. The reality remains. All Hispanics can brag about is the native speaker base because nobody is learning Spanish.

Yo creo que el punto 2 es un buen 'truco' para que los demás aprendan inglés.

The most important language is Spanish, that's all there is to it.

El idioma más importante es el español, todo lo demás está demás.

Tienes toda la razon, lo que pasa es que el mundo es demaciado estupido para entenderlo.

Prosperity is growing in Russia and a middle class is forming there. The country has a lot of natural resources to make it thrive. I think the importance of both Russian and Chinese will grow significantly in the future.
