My American Accent

>> I'm not an American. Heck, my native tongue isn't even English.

I'm Finnish, but I fooled you, didn't I? <<

Obviously you came to America at a young age though. Your accent is a pure American accent, and does not sound the least bit Finnish.

>> St. Louis, EastCoast (MidAtlantic) or South. <<

I don't think it sounds like St. Louis. Definitely East coast or South.

I have never set foot outside of Finland. I've been in Stockholm, Sweden though.

Listen, young man. I know what an American accent sounds like, and what a Finnish accent sounds like. You do not even have a trace of a Finnish accent. You most certainly have an American accent. This is obviously some sort of joke. You are American.

I am not American. I am a pure-blooded Finn. And this isn't a joke.

I just did a little experiment to find out whether my American accent sounds believable or not.

And I obviously it does.

Prove it. Record yourself saying something in Finnish.

Ray, I'm wondering how you would interpret this sentence:

"John was asked to sit by James."

What, specifically, is taking place? There's a reason I'm asking.
Ray   Fri Sep 12, 2008 6:21 pm GMT
Hmm..

I can think of two interpretations.
James asked John if he would sit down, or John was asked to sit close to James by someone else?

What an asshole.

Just stop pretending you're not American or that you weren't brought up bilingually. You know you are lying.
Ray   Fri Sep 12, 2008 6:56 pm GMT
There's not need to insult.

I'm not an American nor bilingual. I'm Finnish!

Did you listen the audio clip where I talk in Finnish?
Guest   Fri Sep 12, 2008 7:03 pm GMT
I don't believe you for one second.
Ray   Fri Sep 12, 2008 7:12 pm GMT
Well then that's your problem.
Northwesterner   Fri Sep 12, 2008 8:14 pm GMT
Wow, that's amazing. How long have you studied English?

Oh, well, sounds American enough to be mistaken as one. So, if you really weren't brought up bilingually or pretending you were American, then good job. Your accent sounds generally American, though it can't be traced to a specific area due to the overlapping cot-caught vowels. Good job.

But you still deserved to be yelled at since you lied. Oh well, Im not here to yell at anyone, so peace out!
