Statistics can be deceiving. If "opium addicts" were a country, it would probably be first on the list.

Opium users are very happy. But I still wouldn't want to be one. The same goes with Costa Ricans. They may be happy, but it's all in their head, and I am glad I ain't one of them.

Costa Rica is hardly a banana republic, it's one of the riches Latin American countries.

Costa Rica is a democratic republic with a strong constitution. The country has had at least 59 years of uninterrupted democracy, making it one of the most stable countries in the region, and the only Latin American country included in the list of the world’s 22 older democracies since at least 1950.
