Firts: I cannot understand what's the problem of considering them separate or not!!
Second: in Italy the two continents are referring as North AND South America but all their inhabitants are "americans", just for your information

If South America is called "AMERICA" I can't understand in which ways people have to call the inhabitants of this continent. If the continent is called "America" their inhabitants are "Americans" like the North American ones. it seems to me so logical and natural
NO NO NO   Sun May 20, 2007 2:25 pm GMT
The ONLY TRUE North Americans are native Indians, all the others are fucking immigrants
s.jack   Sun May 20, 2007 2:51 pm GMT
NO! NO! NO! THE ONLY TRUE North Americans are we, The Proud Sasquatch!
uh?   Sun May 20, 2007 3:16 pm GMT
Mhhh... are you sure? I don't think Sasquatch exist, so you can't be listed
s.jack   Sun May 20, 2007 3:18 pm GMT
We DO exist and we dare you to proof different!

Ok fags, since you don't believe me that the word America is used worldwide to describe North, Central and South America together, check this out. Besides English everyone else use the singular from.

English: the Americas - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americas
Spanish: América - http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Am%C3%A9rica
French: Amérique - http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Am%C3%A9rique
Italian: Americhe - http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americhe
Deutsch: Amerika - http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amerika_%28Kontinent%29
Esperanto: Ameriko - http://eo.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ameriko
Polish: Ameryka - http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ameryka
Slovenian: Amerika - http://sk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amerika

And I could keep on going all day long, just to prove to you that the only ones that use the word "Americas" (in plural) are you, English speakers.

My dear fag, who doesn't believe that the word America is used worldwide to describe North, Central and South America together?

<<WHAAATTTT???!!!! From the British??? AHAAHAHHA!!! MY GOD!!!! You are an american and you even don't know what is the origin of your country name. It's embarassing, hardly to believe.
America takes its name by Italian navigator Amerigo Vespucci, Amerigo was latinized in Americus and then it became "America".
Incredible, but have you done primary school???>>

Yes, dumbass, I am aware that the continent was named for Amerigo Vespucci. The point I was making was that the British are the ones who began calling people in the 13 colonies "Americans." Read more closely next time!

No, you're wrong, it's really only the the Portugese and Spanish speaking world that considers "America" as one continent. The rest of the world, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania all use the seven contitent system. You guys are the ones who are, for what it's worth, in the minority here.

I'm going on not to understand what is the problem
elbarto   Sun May 20, 2007 7:06 pm GMT
Fuck do you want me to repeat it? ok

English: "the Americas" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americas
Spanish: "América" - http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Am%C3%A9rica
French: "Amérique" - http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Am%C3%A9rique

Esperanto: "Ameriko" - http://eo.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ameriko
Polish: "Ameryka" - http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ameryka
Slovenian: "Amerika" - http://sk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amerika

And so on... always SINGULAR!
The American   Sun May 20, 2007 7:15 pm GMT
No, you're proving nothing. Most of those sites say that "the Americas" are the union of TWO continents. It seems the only parts of the world that are teaching that it is ONE continent are the Latinos/Iberians who have an obvious political agenda. The rest of the free world, speaking French, English, Dutch, German, Japanese, Chinese, and so on, all regard North America and South America as two separate continents!

If the Americas are one continent, then so is Africa-Eurasia...you can't have it both ways!
