Me parece que en Argentina a veces se usa el pronombre 'vos' y a veces se usa 'tú'. ¿Cuáles son las connotaciones asociadas con el uso de las dos formas? ¿Cuándo se debería usar la una o la otra?

"Vos" comes from Latin, whereas "usted" is a Spanish innovation that is probably derived from "vuestra merced", which explains why it takes third-person conjugations. In Latin, there was only "tu" and "vos": you singular, and you plural. In medieval Spanish, this was still the case. But "vos" also doubled as a formal "you", with the plurality somehow connoting respect. This is still the case in French today with "tu" and "vous". I believe this was also the situation in the time of Cervantes, so you will find this usage in Don Quixote.
In Spanish, "vos" eventually got lengthened to "vosotros" when actually used in the plural, much as English "you" may become "you guys" or "y'all". But "vos" gradually became replaced by "usted" in Spain, until it was no longer part of the standard Castilian dialect and thus became stigmatized. So then, where it survived -- mostly Latin America -- it became an informal pronoun, displacing tú. And somewhere along the way, Latin America also lost the pronoun "vosotros".
In most regions, "vos" is conjugated a bit differently than "vosotros", but historically this was not the case. The conjugations of "vosotros" today are the same ones that "vos" historically used.

Si yo encontrase un libro en que se usa el vos nunca lo compraria ni lo leeria! A mi me encanta el castellano estandar europeo.
El Vos es una excepción en el universo hispánico, en Mexico , que es el país con más cantidad de hispanohablantes, tampoco es usado.

El Vos sí se usa en algunas provincias/regiones en el sur de México.

En México mayoritariamente se usa el TUTEO, es en las zonas como Chiapas, localizadas en el sur, con un mayor subdesarrollo y tasas de analfabetismo, donde existen islas voseantes.
