Accent Analyzing

Very interesting, your accent sounds very strong in some respects, and hardly Southern in other respects. It sounds very old-fashioned to my ears, like the Southern accent of the late 19th century. I didn't know that people talked like that there. Are you from a very rural area?

Levee, thanks for the comment.

"Very interesting, your accent sounds very strong in some respects, and hardly Southern in other respects."

What features stand out to you as Southern? I can think of a couple things that would, including the pin-pen merger.

"It sounds very old-fashioned to my ears, like the Southern accent of the late 19th century."

Interesting.

"Are you from a very rural area?"

I'm not *from* a rural area. I'm from Jacksonville, Florida which is a large city. But, from ages 7-13, I lived in Patrick, South Carolina, which is a small town (population 354, to be exact.) It is basically in the middle of nowhere. I now live in Jacksonville once again.

With that said, I'm probably not a good example of northern Florida speech.

you sound like Kermit the fr/Q/g.

Does anyone else find the /Q/ vowel inherently annoying?

Yes, I do. I prefer /A/
/Q/ sounds old-fashioned / Bostonian.
