The border of Texas and Mexico, according to Santa Anna (who ruled Mexico at the time) set the border at the Rio Grande, and Mexico did not respect that. So when Texas joined the US, US soldiers moved into Texas...

That was afterwards, June 24, 1853, the Gadsden Purchase and was just the southern third of Arizona and a small chunk of New Mexico; together it was about the same size as Serbia.

Consider that Europeans illegally took the entire American continent from the natives. Then most of the colonial countries illegally "stole themselves" from the Europeans.
